Photos of Alice Springs Baptist Church

My Uncle graciously sent me some photo's of the church and it's surrounds, so I thought I'd share them with all of you.

This is the church sign (we're starting off with the easy ones)

This is the exterior with the Car Park. The building was formerly a warehouse and it definitely retains some of that appearance from the outside.

This is the smaller meeting room. It's all set up for the Sunday evening services. About 100-150 people attend those services. It's really cool though because it's not just the church members that attend it's people from all the local churches that come together for the Sunday evening service (I think the tea and coffee and cookies may have something to do with the attraction :)

This is the main sanctuary. There are about 350 regular attenders and during the tourist season that number can swell with visitors to the area. The services are casual but they are not lightweight, there is some serious Bible teaching and an awesome Gospel focus at ASBC!

Hope you enjoy the photos and I can promise you all more to come.

Prayer Point:
I will be getting my airline tickets this week. Pray that I'm able to make a wise choice about when to go and that all of the ordering goes smoothly.

Cheers,
Shannon

Welcome

Hey everyone! If you're reading this that means you know I'm headed Down Under! God has truly blessed me with the opportunity to serve him in Alice Springs, Australia.

I thought in my first blog I would give you a few little facts about Alice to orient you to the town.

1. Its location smack bang in the middle of the continent makes it THE place to go if you want to see some of the Australian Outback

2. It is the single closest point to any given beach in Australia...They are all over 1000 km from Alice but still, it's very centrally located.

3.October to March the average daily maximum temperature in Alice Springs is over 30°C. (sometimes closer to 40 C)

4. Average rainfall is between 42 mm and 8 mm per month.

5. The population is about 24,000 people (that's about a tenth as many people as kangaroos)

6. Alice Springs was founded as a telegraph station, near a watering hole in the 1870's.

7. Alice Springs school system produces Alice Springs school of the
Air which sends out educational lessons via radio to students who live in some of the remotest parts of the outback and cannot attend a regular school.

8. The Alice Springs Mouse is threatened with extinction. (I think it's largely to blame on the Alice Springs Cat.)

9. There are about 10 churches in Alice Springs.

10. I'm going to be living there!

I hope you enjoyed these little bits of knowledge.

Please be praying with me as I prepare for this great adventure.

Thanks,
Shannon
